“Hourglass”: a collaboration with the Department of Medicine

The Postgraduate Program “Public Health” of the Department of Medicine of the University of Patras, and the European program “OAC-Connect Us” with the support of the Associations “Alma Zois”, “Floga”, “AgaliaZO”, Oncology Hospital “ELPIDA” and the Hellenic Cancer Society Patras Branch, invite you to the 7th event “Public Health in the Spotlight” with the theme “Human Medicine in Chronic Diseases” organized on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 18.00-21.00 at the Conference Center of the University of Patras.

18:20-18:30: Presentation of P.M.S. Public Health, OACCUs program

18:30-18:40: Excellence of PMS Graduates

18:40-18:45: Video presentation on surviving OACCUS

18:45-19.00: How the state can stand by the chronic patient, Charalambos Bonanos, Deputy Governor of Health

19:00-19:30: Human Medicine and Technoculture, Athanasios Dritsas, Cardiologist, Asst. Director, Bloodless Cardiology Department, Onassios Heart Surgery Center, Composer and author, Fellow International Association of Music and Medicine (IAMM).

19.30-20.30: talk with the oncology patients

Oncology patients in open discussion with their doctors.

The professor of pathology – oncology Charalambos Kalofanos, the director of the Oncology Department of “Agiou Andreas” Athena Christopoulos, the professor of radiation therapy Dimitrios Kardamakis, the professor of Psychiatry Konstantinos Asimakopoulos, the head of the Oncology Department of PGNP Anna Viha are participating.

20:30: Awarding of Charalambos Kalofonou by Mrs. Zenia Saridakis, President of Oncologists-Pathologists of Greece for his many years of service to the oncology patient.

20:45: “Hourglass” Dance Performance in collaboration with the Stage Practice and Speech Workshop, Department of Theater Studies, Directed by: Katia Savrami, Asst. Teacher

21.00: Closing of the Event, dinner.

Theatre Laboratory of Drama and Speech of the Department of Theatre Studies presented the dance performance entitled “Hourglass” in the context of the event “Public Health in the Spotlight” with the theme “Human Medicine in Chronic Diseases”, of the Department of Medicine of the University of Patras, on Monday 4 December 2023 and time 18.00-21.00 at the Conference Center of the University of Patras.

A group of students from the Department of Theater Studies participated in the performance, as part of the laboratory course “Choreology in dance and theater” taught by Associate Professor Katia Savrami.

The Theatre Laboratory of Drama and Speech, Department of Theatre Studies – University of
Patras, presented “Hourglass”, a performance, based on an idea by Katia Savrami, Choreologist,
in collaboration with the OACCUs European program, leaded by Professor Apostolos Vandarakis
and visual artist Effie Halivopoulou. OACCUs aims to be a vital part of the new EU4Health
network for young cancer survivors. Halivopoulou’s artwork was used for the creation of the video,
as animation of her paintings, which emerged following a 10-year research οf biological maps of
the inside of the body and were transformed by the artist into oversized abstract paintings. The
video with animation/montage by Nikos Falagas, is a commission for the performance and it
combines the musical rhythm of Philip Glass with the movement/dance of the participating Theater
Studies students. Selected texts with a positive approach towards illness from poetry and Theatre
will accompany the performance.
