> Golfo, the immortal heroine by Spyridon Peresiadis – Research perspectives

The scientific conference “Golfo, the immortal heroine of Spyridon Peressiadis – Research issues” was organized on the 25th of October from 09.00 to 17.00, at the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Patras, focusing on issues regarding the text of Golfo and its performances in the 130 years since its first staging (1893-2023). The topics of the Conference comprised issues such as the transformations of the dramatic text into other genres (cinema, poetry, prose, shadow theatre, etc.), its intertextual presence, its reception by the diaspora, its reception in the 21st century as it is manifested in many performances or other forms of art.

Golfo’s dialogue with other forms of Greek art – Vasilaros (shadow theatre), Dimitris Dimitriadis (theatre), Theo Angelopoulos (cinema) – is perpetual and productive. Spyridon Peresiadis with his Golfo touched the pulse and listened to the necessity of his time, while at the same time he created a modern myth, which for more than a century did not cease to arise interest. Although the play is identified with tradition, it is a creation of a specific ideological and aesthetic category (ethography, comedy, dramatic romance).

Aiming at a fruitful dialogue between theory and practice, the Scientific Conference concluded with an open discussion, in the form of a round table of artists (directors, writers, actors, visual artists, etc.).

> Golfo inProgress, 25/10/2024, 21.00

Golfo in Progress” was an educational/artistic experiment where actors from the new generation of students of Drama Schools in Greece met, on the occasion of Peresiadis’ play. Each school participated with an act from the play, performing it in its own way and letting its own stage language be distinguished. Thus, the variety of approaches generated by our era and the relationship created between the past and the contemporary was presented in a single performance. In this meeting participated: the Drama School “Arhi” under the direction of Dimitris Imellos, the Drama School and the Directing School of the National Theatre of Greece under the direction of Simos Kakalas, the Drama School of the Athens Conservatory under the instruction of Maria Savvidou as acting teacher, Alkistis Polychroni as Dance-Movement teacher and with original Music Composition by Petros Chochlakakis, the Drama School of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Patras under the direction of Yannis Leontaris and the Theatre Laboratory of Drama and Speech of the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Patras under the direction of Maria Frangi. It was, in essence, a fruitful artistic exchange between future actors, directors and other artists who will continue a great tradition of stage art, looking to the 21st century. (more here)
