DON’T LOOK: Our Laboratory at The Demos Center

On Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 7:30-8:30 p.m., at The Demos Center, in Athens (Hipitou 17, Plaka), the artistic event – discussion titled DON’T LOOK took place. At the event, students and graduates from our department performed the poem DON’T LOOK by Harold Pinter. The discussion was moderated by Ioanna Papapavlou. The lecturers were Katia Savrami, Choreologist, Associate Professor of the Department of Theater Studies, and Despina Georgakopoulou, Theatrologist and Actress, Member of the Faculty of Education of the Department, Professor Effie Halivopoulou, visual artist, Tim Ward, specialized on sound art and electroacoustic music, and Director of Music Department, Nikos Falagas, specialized on digital video, from Deree College and Thomas Economacos freelance light designer.

The event was organized by the American College of Greece (Deree).
The theme of the event focuses on questions such as: “How did our world restart after the pandemic? How did we regain the ability to work collectively in physical space after prolonged isolation? How is our existence reflected through our art in the collective traumatic experience of isolation? How have concepts of space and time changed with the use of technology during isolation?
The entire event was organized by Efi Ηalyvopoulou (Deree College), who has been Artist-in-Residence at the Laboratory of Drama and Speech Workshop from 2020 to the present.

The artistic project is part of the action that took place in the Old Slaughterhouses, with the participation of students of the Department of Theatre studies, in the context of the 3rd International Conference of Theatrical Anthropology (March 16, 17 and 18, 2023) and organized ny the Laboratory of Drama and Speech co-organized by the Center for Theatrical Anthropology (Heraklion, Crete), the Fondazione Barba Varley and the Museum of Science and Technology of the University of Patras, under the auspices and support of the Danish Institute, the Region of Western Greece and the Research Committee of the University of Patras. The works took place in the Museum of Science and Technology of the University of Patras, the Old Slaughterhouses (KEDIP), the Epikentro+ theater and the Dansarte dance school.
